Photo credit: The SF Korea Times Philip (Flip) Ahn Cuddy, Dosan's grandson, will lead a tour of historic SF sites for the Korean independence movement led by leaders including Dosan Ahn Chang Ho (1876-1938), Helen Ahn (1883-1969), and Whang Sa Sun (1885-1974) in the early 20th century.
Dosan was one of the main leaders of the Korean Independence movement; he and his wife, Helen Ahn, came to San Francisco in 1902. In 1928, Whang Sa Sun, Gail Whang's grandfather, became the very first Korean pastor at the Powell Street Methodist Church, where Korean independence fighters gathered together to plan for Korean independence. Whang was a Korean National Association and Hung Sa Dan member. April 21st marks Helen Ahn's birthday and 49th death anniversary. This rare and private historic tour will begin at 2:30 pm on Saturday, 4/21. Please RSVP to the tour by responding to my email by Saturday 4/14. The new SF Korean Consulate General will be joining Flip and other San Francisco Bay Area history keepers.
