SOCIAL JUSTICE EDUCATION
We seek to address past wrongs by providing accurate histories of marginalized populations. Our main focus areas include countering sexual and gender-based violence as well as the history of and issues surrounding the Asian diaspora in the United States. When addressing sexual and gender-based violence, we apply lessons learned from the dark history of the Japanese military’s sexual slavery system before and during WWII and sexual violence and medical atrocities committed against Black Americans. The topic of medical atrocities and ethics surrounding marginalized populations is another area in which ESJF is in the process of developing teaching materials.
Resources for Educators
ESJF develops resource guides dedicated to the histories of marginalized populations on topics such as “comfort women” history and issues, the history of and issues surrounding the Asian diaspora in the United States, and medical atrocities and ethics. Using primary source documents and tested lesson plans, we seek to present these topics accurately and sensitively in today’s intersectional context.
