DAYS FOR GIRLS INTERNATIONAL
ESJF supports Days for Girls International (DFG), an organization with the mission to increase access to menstrual care and education by developing global partnerships, cultivating Social Entrepreneurs, mobilizing volunteers and innovating sustainable solutions that shatter stigma and limitations for women and girls.
DFG provides kits with basic menstrual items, including reusable liners made with durable, 100 percent cotton that can last for at least up to three years. These kits have served as effective and environmentally sustainable menstrual health solutions, which help women and girls. Easy access to menstrual care items breaks the cycle of helplessness and allows women and girls to live with dignity while also continuing education during their period.
The first kits were distributed in 2008 to a school in Kenya. Today, DFG operates in 145 countries and provides much-needed health education that works to empower women and girls. Some DFG kits go to refugee camps and internally displaced populations.
DFG was an active proponent of the passage of California Assembly Bill 367: The Menstrual Equity for All Act in 2021. The bill requires that California public middle and high schools stock restrooms with free menstrual products.
