August 28th, 2017, another “Comfort Women” passed away. Grandma Ha Sangsook was born in 1928 in Seosan, South Chungcheong Province, Korea. In 1944, she was taken as “Comfort Women” when she was only 16 years old. She was told that may be able to make money working in a factory. She couldn’t return to her hometown for another 60 years after the liberation, only to return in 2003.

December 2000, Grandma Ha testified at the Women’s International War Crimes Tribunal on Japan’s Military Sexual Slavery in Tokyo. She attended numerous Wednesday rallies and other activities to shed light on Japan’s wartime atrocities and demand its sincere apology.
